Most classes at USP are taught only in Portuguese. Therefore, the student must have an intermediate level of Portuguese in order to attend classes. No certificate of language proficiency is required.
The exchange student can attend an intensive Portuguese course offered by the Language Learning Center of the School of Philosophy, Languages and Literature, and Human Sciences (Centro de Línguas da FFLCH) at the São Paulo Campus – Cidade Universitária. Student Life

Universidade de São Paulo offers various cultural options for its students and also for the community. It maintains several museums and most of them have free entrance. Around the city of São Paulo, there are other cultural options provided by USP, such as Paulista Museum (MP – Museu Paulista), the Museum of Zoology (MZ – Museu de Zoologia), the Science Station (Estação Ciência) and “Maria Antônia” University Center (Centro Universitário Maria Antônia), all of them providing students with a rich diversity of cultural options.
USP iFriends is a program created by the USP International Office in order to facilitate the contact between international students and the academic community at the university.

Housing

USP does not provide housing for exchange students. Students are responsible for arranging their own housing. USP strongly recommends that students take part in the USP iFriends program in order to get more information about accommodation. Applicants may opt to take part in the buddy program when applying after being nominated by their home university.
