Overview

The University of Sydney is Australia’s oldest university, founded in 1850. Its founder envisioned “the opportunity for the child of every class to become great and useful in the destinies of this country.” The university hosts 60,000 students, with 20,000 international students from 130 countries. Ranked among the top universities in the world, the University of Sydney features an interdisciplinary culture among its faculties to offer the widest range of academic programs in Australia.

Academics

Exchange students benefit from the University of Sydney’s wide range of study, with over 2,500 study units available across nine faculties and schools. In addition to its engineering and biology programs, popular areas of study include Australian Studies; Indigenous Studies; Business, Economics and Political Science; and Sustainability and Environmental Sciences. The University of Sydney also features the top-ranked Australian programs in Medicine, Nursing, Veterinary Science and Architecture/Built Environment. Visit the Unit of Study Lists to find more information about course offerings. Exchange students can apply for a single semester or a full academic year.

Student Life

Students can choose from over 200 clubs and societies and 43 sports clubs to participate in. The university’s main student organization, the University of Sydney Union, is a student-led, non-profit organization that provides funding for student programming and runs the clubs and societies programs. International students can also participate in the Sydney University Global Exchange Society, an organization that connects students interested in study abroad, travel, and culture.

Location

The University of Sydney is rated as one of the most beautiful university campuses. The Camperdown and Darlington campus is located just outside of the heart of Sydney, which is rated as Australia’s most livable city and the friendliest to visitors. Students have the chance with events in the metropolitan area and the chance to experience mountains and beaches all nearby.
